PRIMARY FIELD TRIPS

GRADE 2

Grade 2 field/educational trip to Cloud Mentor was exciting, challenging and informative. This science workshop helped the students to bring out their curiosity and explore their creativity. The students were divided into groups of ten. 'Junior Chefs' explored their cooking skills and got to make pasta in white sauce and banana cup cakes. The students were made to wear aprons and chef caps and read out from the recipe. Each of them got to eat what they cooked.

'Curious Professors' had a hands-on experience in creating fans and lights using solar energy and energy from the battery. Students observed and understood the working of sound sensors by seeing the bulb glowing due to the clapping of their hands.

'Nutty Engineers' had an insight into hydraulics. Students learnt the principle of hydraulics in the working of a lift. Students designed their own lifts using syringes filled with water. It was an innovative and simple way to explain the principle of hydraulics to 7 year olds. Each group took turns to experience the different activities.

Towards the end of the day the students gathered in the hall and had a quiz. They even wrote their feelings and experiences on the board.

GRADE 1

Excited and eager, the students of grade 1 stepped into 'Cloud Mentor' in Koramangala. A warm welcome awaited them. They were given individualized badges to wear. Soon they were divided into two groups – 'Nutty Engineer' and 'Junior Chefs.'

'Nutty Engineers' delved into the working of an electric fan. Students were shown the different parts of an electric fan and taught how to connect the wires to the power source (battery). The path of flow of electric current from the battery to the gadget was explained in detail.

'Junior Chefs' whipped up an appetite in the kitchen. With their apron and chef's cap on, each one followed instructions given in their recipe for chocolate cup-cake. Students picked the required ingredients, mixed them and poured them into greased baking moulds. The cakes were baked and ready to be eaten later.

The students were exposed to hands on experience, where they got the golden opportunity to assemble the parts to create a battery operated fan and the junior chefs baked their first cup-cake. The amazing trip was truly interactive and memorable.
